Live Well – Teen – Live Well

Being the parent of a teen or young adult can be difficult to say the least. Young people today are faced with many more, and different, challenges and distractions than we, their parents/guardians, may have faced in our time. As a therapist who has years of experience working with young people, and their families, in residential/correctional settings, I have counseled on some of the toughest issues youth face today.

Issues such as:

Substance Use
Impulse Control
Engaging in Risk-taking Behavior
Relational Issues
Underachievement
Gender-Identity/Self-Acceptance
Anger Control
Self-Harming Behavior

As a therapist who actively advocates for youth, it is my practice to place the young person first. This means, I will provide individual counseling services to either the parent/guardian or the youth, but not both. I will provide family counseling services after conducting individual counseling with the youth and when s/he feels ready to address the bigger relational issues with the family.

As a private pay provider, I am able to offer more discretion in the services I provide. While I am able to offer more discretion, I am still a mandated reporter. As a therapist, parent, and compassionate human being, the young person’s safety always comes first and communication regarding safety shall be considered an open discussion between the client, the parent/guardian, and the therapist.
